Canvas is the learning management system (LMS) used for KCC's online, hybrid and enhanced face-to-face courses. You will log in to Canvas using your KCC username and password. For assistance, contact the ITS HelpDesk.
Canvas's built-in Help feature gives you access to Canvas Guides. Start with these guides that offer step-by-step instructions (with pictures!) when looking for answers to Canvas questions. If the guides don't resolve the issue, contact the Teaching and Learning Center or email CanvasHelp@kcc.edu for help.
Help for your students
Canvas provides some great tools for helping students. Please encourage your students to complete Canvas's Student Orientation to Canvas course. When they log into Canvas for the first time, they will see an invitation to enroll in this course. They can click on the announcement or the Help link in the lower left corner of the Canvas screen at any time to enroll (instructors can also enroll in the Student Orientation to Canvas through the Help link).
Students can visit the Writing Lab or Math, Science, and Accounting during scheduled hours with Canvas questions.
Additionally, there is a short training module for students available in Canvas Commons that you can import directly into your courses. The module includes directions for use for instructors, and is completely customizable depending on your students' specific needs. Go to Canvas Commons, search for "Student Requirement Module," and import into your course(s) to get started. Email CanvasHelp@kcc.edu with any questions.
The Teaching and Learning Center provides training for both beginners and experienced users in several convenient delivery modes. Check the TLC calendar for upcoming training sessions and drop-in hours that are currently available.
We learn best by doing, and that's the idea behind this course, in which participants complete a series of authentic core Canvas tasks in their own practice sandbox. When done, you'll earn the Canvas Challenge completion badge that you can proudly display. This course is a requirement for all first-time online and hybrid instructors.
Prepare for your upcoming courses now
Canvas course shells are generally available one semester in advance. You can begin working on your courses now so that they will be ready to publish at the beginning of the new term. Once logged in to Canvas, you can also request a Sandbox Course shell to practice with by using the Help button in the lower left-hand corner on the blue Global Navigation bar.
