Back for 2019: ICAT Junior Edition for K-8!

Are you a grade K-8 teacher? Thanks to our partners at the Illinois Judges Association, KCC continues to take its teacher professional development efforts into the K-8 classroom. ICAT Junior first made its debut at KCC in 2018. Using the unique content developed by our IJA colleagues, the 2019 ICAT Junior maps some of their most popular lessons to the Illinois Social Science Standards, the civic education statute, and/or the College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) Framework. The best part? Subject matter guidance from the Illinois judiciary itself, who will bring real-life context to our classroom activities. ICAT Junior is underwritten by both the IJA and the Robert R. McCormick Foundation and is offered at no cost to Illinois teachers. Download the agenda.

Grades 6-12 Civics and Illinois Social Studies Standards Implementation Workshop

KCC is proud to continue its partnership with the Robert R. McCormick Foundation to sponsor the 2019 Civics and Illinois Social Studies Standards Implementation Workshop (known in Kankakee as the Illinois Civics Academy for Teachers).

This year's theme is "Decision 2020:  Opportunities for Inquiry to Informed Action." The Illinois Social Science Standards and civics requirement provide an opportunity for classrooms to explore essential questions that culminate in informed action. Collaborate with others as you engage in sample inquiries relating to the 2020 elections. Participants are encouraged to bring technology to explore FREE resources to enhance classroom practice. Explicit connections will be made to Social Emotional Learning Competencies, the Danielson Framework for Effective Teaching. and the English Language Arts Common Core State Standards.  Suggested for teachers of grades 6-12.  This workshop is underwritten by the Robert R. McCormick Foundation and offered at no cost to Illinois teachers. Download the agenda.
