Tuition & Aid
Tuition and cost to attend
KCC is committed to making your education as affordable as possible. Tuition is currently $155 per credit hour, plus $19 in fees, for a total of $174 per credit hour. Additional course fees apply to some courses. This amount is thousands of dollars less than what you would pay at four-year colleges, universities and for-profit institutions – and you still get a great education that will pay off throughout your working life.
Rates are subject to change without notice.
Financial aid, including grants, loans, scholarships and student employment, is also available. There is also an installment payment plan available from Nelnet. It has a non-refundable enrollment fee each semester, but no other interest or finance charges.
Your cost for classes will be based on how many credit hours you take each semester. A full-time student should take 15-16 credit hours each semester to complete an associate degree in two years.
Residency | Tuition per credit hour | Basic fees per credit hour | Out-of-district fee* | Total per credit hour |
---|---|---|---|---|
Illinois (In-district) | $155 | $19 | n/a | $174 |
Illinois (Out-of-district) | $155 | $19 | $275 | $449 |
Out-of-state | $155 | $19 | $687.01 | $861.01 |
Senior citizen | n/a | $19 | n/a | $19 |
In-district residency is defined as living in KCC’s service area, Community College District 520. Senior citizens (60 years and older) residing within the college district will not be charged any tuition for credit division courses provided sufficient tuition-paying students are enrolled in the class to cover the cost of offering it. Senior citizens still pay individual course fees.
*Residents of Benton, Lake and Newton counties in Indiana are charged the Illinois out-of-district rate for tuition rather than the out-of-state rate.
Costs for Occupational and Health Career Programs

Other Expenses
Books and Supplies
Expect to pay on average about $960 per semester for textbooks and supplies if you are taking 15 semester hours. Books and supplies are available at the KCC online bookstore. Used books are available at a lower price so you may be able to reduce your textbook cost. Also, KCC does buy back books at the end of the semester.
Transportation
For financial aid budgeting purposes, estimate $1,824 annually for transportation. Most KCC students drive to school. The River Valley Metro Transit bus stops at KCC.
Room and Board
KCC does not offer on-campus residences. For financial aid purposes, it is estimated that room and board (housing and food) will cost $4,672 per school year for students living with parents and $9,312 for students not living with parents.
Payment Deadlines
Payment deadlines may vary based on your registration dates. Full payments are accepted online, via Student Self-Service, or in the college Accounting Office, located in Student Affairs in the east wing on the second floor of the main building.

Before You Sign Up
Initial Account Balance — Tuition and fees must total at least $195 per semester to enroll in the payment plan. You must re-enroll each semester.
Balance Changes — Your Nelnet contract will be calculated based on current charges at time of enrollment. If you add or remove courses after you enroll in an Nelnet contract, your charges will be automatically updated.

Payment Policy
You must pay for your classes in full by the published payment deadlines. KCC does not deregister students from courses for non-payment after the refund date for a class. It is your responsibility to drop a class by the refund date or you will be obligated to pay for it.
Pending or partial financial aid and scholarships may hold you in your classes. Please review your registration statement for exact refund dates. Dropping classes may affect your financial aid.
Course refund dates are listed on your registration statement, viewable by logging into the self-service module and choosing Student Planning.
Refunds
Tuition refunds for credit division courses are based on the date of withdrawal. If the final day for a refund falls on a weekend or a date when the college is closed, the refund deadline is the following business day.
Course Withdrawals
Tuition refunds for withdrawals from college credit division courses are based on refund date. Refund dates are printed on your registration statement. You can receive a 100 percent refund through 10 percent of the course (approximately 12 calendar days for a 16-week course). No refund will be given if you withdraw after 10 percent of the course has been completed.
Course Cancellation
You will receive a 100% refund of tuition and fees for a canceled course unless you transfer to another class. In that case, the tuition and fees will be applied to the new course.
